These operations were conducted in Hashkamina, Achin, Nazyan, Khoghyani and Sherzad districts of the province, and report shows that most of the killed insurgents belonged to the Daesh terrorist group.
Based on National Directorate of Security (NDS) information, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, Provincial Governor Spokesman, said 150 Daesh militants and around 100 Taliban insurgents were killed in 17 US drone operations conducted in the past month in the province.
“No civilian casualties have taken place during operation,” he said.
The report took surface at the time when a number of provincial civil society activists said that drone operation is the best way to eliminate the insurgents.
They also sought support for continuation of drone operations. A civil society activist, Asadullah Delawari termed drone attacks as a significant tool to restrain subversive activities of the insurgents.
He said that drone attacks was the best option to eliminate insurgents, however, he furthered that the last month’s drone strikes in the Nangarhar province was very much productive that killed hundreds of insurgents.
“Operation would continue till the area if cleared of the insurgents, no matter if it takes months,” he said.
“These districts of the province were once considered safe places for the Taliban insurgents and they were targeting Afghan security forces and government officials very often,” security officials said.
