Afghan forces kill 23 militants in past 24 hours

Afghan security forces have killed at least 23 insurgents in their newest military raid in the past 24 hours, according to Afghan defence ministry.

A statement by the ministry of defense said the joint operations were conducted by Afghan security and defense forces in relevant areas of Logar, Kunduz, Zabul, Paktika and Helmand provinces that during which 23 armed insurgents were killed and 14 others were wounded.

The statement further added that the Afghan security forces confiscated various weapons and explosives during the operations.

According to MoD, a member of the Afghan National Army (ANA) also embraced martyrdom during the operations.

No anti-government group including Taliban has yet to make comments.

The operations are being conducted as the Taliban-led insurgency have been rampant during the recent months as efforts have been put in place to encourage the militants to join the reconciliation process.
