Afghan leaders praise Afghan National Cricket Team for historic win

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah have praised Afghanistan National Cricket Team for the historic win over Zimbabwe in One Day International (ODI) series.

“What a fab win & what an amazing batting by G. Naib! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would also like to congratulate the fans. Keep it up our heroes!” states a post on the official twitter account of the President.

CEO Abdullah hailed Gulbadin Naib’s performance as a heroic effort to win the final for Afghanistan last night, Khaama Press reported.

“Congratulations to ACB officials for the great series win over Zimbabwe today. A heroic effort by GbNaib. We are proud of our heroes.” Post on the official twitter account of the CEO states.

The Afghanistan national cricket team defeated Zimbabwe by 2 wickets during the fifth and final match of the bilateral series.

The match started Wednesday afternoon with Zimbabwe batting first after they won the toss and elected to bat, setting a target of 249 runs for Afghanistan.

Despite a good start by the opening batsmen, Afghanistan started losing early wickets shortly after the batting power play ended.

Afghanistan continued to lose wickets in the middle order as well and the game suddenly changed in Afghanistan’s favour with a remarkable performance by Gulbadin Naib in the middle order who remained not out after scoring 82 runs and hitting the final six of the match.

This was the second consecutive victory of the Afghanistan national cricket team defeating Zimbabwe in ODI series.

The Afghan team recorded its first historic win against Zimbabwe in an ODI series late in the month of October.
