Afghanistan accedes to full membership at WTO

At the 10th ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization taking place in Nairobi of Kenia, Afghanistan acceded to the full membership of the WTO.

Afghanistan submitted its request for full membership almost 11 years ago and so far has acted as an observing member at the center.

A high-level delegation from Afghanistan including deputy to Chief Executive Mohammad Khan Rahmani, presidential advisor on economic affairs Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, Minister of Trade Hamayoun Rasa and deputy to minister of trade Mozmal Shinwari have attended the 10th ministerial conference of WTO which is taking place from 15-18 December.

Deputy to Chief Executive of Afghanistan Mohmmad Khan Rahmani said the decision taken by members on the accession of Afghanistan at WTO is a historic step and added that becoming a full member at the WTO has been part of Afghanistan’s strategic plan to reach peace and economic stability.

“Afghanistan’s membership at WTO can help investment growth in the country,” said Rahmani, adding that with providing job opportunities for Afghans specially youths and women, the expansion of terrorism in the country can be prevented.

Afghanistan acceded to the full membership of World Trade Organization WTO on 17 December of 2015.
