Afghanistan condemns ballistic missile launch by North Korea

Afghanistan on Wednesday condemned the launch of a long-range ballistic missile by North Korea, calling the test of the missile an act against the Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

“The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan condemns the recent test of a long-range ballistic missile by North Korea which was conducted on 7th February, 2016, and believes the test was against the Resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations,” a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The statement further added that the recent act by North Korea has given new dimensions in regional tensions and has escalated arms race, putting in serious risk the security and stability of the region.

The statement also added that such acts are harmful in development of peace and stability in the region and globally, urging for an immediate end to such tests. Khaama press wrote.

The United Nations Security Council strongly condemned the launch of the rocket by North Korea, saying it would soon adopt a new sanctions resolutions in response to the test of the missile.

However, Pyongyang said the missile was launched to place a new Earth observation, Kwangmyongson-4 satellite in the orbit .

The missile was launched weeks after North Korea conducted a fourth nuclear test, violating the existing sanctions.
