Afghans need to write a new, peaceful chapter of history

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, head of the High Council for National Reconciliation met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the intra-Afghan talks opened in Doha on Saturday.

The meeting was also attended by Acting Foreign Minister, Mohammad Hanif Atmar.
Thanking US efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah said that Afghan delegation was in Doha to end the ongoing war and ease a safe and sound environment for the nation.
Dr. Abdullah also hoped that Taliban too utilize the opportunity for peace in the country.
Calling yesterday’s talks a historic event, US Pompeo wished the two sides agree on a framework for ending decades’ war and achieving peace. He also assured of his country’s cooperation with Afghanistan.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also met with Qatar’s Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the intra-Afghan negotiations. Both sides discussed peace process and called holding of intra-Afghan talks a historic day for the war-weary nation.
