American University for Afghanistan resumes operations after kidnappings

American University for Afghanistan (AUFA) has resumed its campus operations after a two-day closure following two of its lecturers were abducted

American University for Afghanistan (AUFA) resumed on Wednesday its normal operations after it announced that it temporarily suspends activity following two of its lecturers were abducted late on Sunday.

 

Two lecturers of the AUFA were abducted on late Sunday by reportedly five unknown gunmen while they were driving just outside the university campus in the third district of Kabul police authority.

 

The identities of the lecturers were not known at the time, but AUFA has just revealed their identities.

 

The statement said, “the two abducted faculty Mr. Kevin King- American national, and Mr. Timothy Weeks- Australian national, taught English language upper level courses, TOEFL preparation, and English languages special classes at the English Language Center of the Professional Development Institute of the University since 2014, and July 2016 respectively”.

 

According to the statement the university is in close contact with the Afghan security agencies as well as the relevant agencies to ensure their immediate and safe return.

 

No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident, nor is clear the motive behind it.
