American University for Afghanistan suspended activity after kidnappings

American University of Afghanistan AUFA has suspended its campus operations following two of its lecturers were kidnapped by unknown gunmen late Sunday near campus.

American University for Afghanistan in a statement said that it has temporarily suspended its campus operations after two of its lecturers were abducted late Sunday in Kabul near the campus.


The statement adds the university expects to resume operations from Wednesday.


Mark English president of the university has said “we are devastated by the news and will remain vigilant to ensure safety and security of all university personnel and students.” According to statement.


“Everything possible is being done to ensure their immediate safe return.” Statement added.


Two lecturers of American University for Afghanistan were abducted late Sunday by reportedly five unknown gunmen who stopped their car near university campus at the third district of Kabul police authority.


The lecturers were from America and Australia.


Both American and Australian embassies in Kabul confirmed the kidnappings with US embassy adding that it is working closely with Afghan law enforcement to assist in the investigation into the kidnappings.


No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the abduction.
