At least five civilians injured in blast in Samangan north of Afghanistan

At least five civilians were injured in a blast in northern Samangan province on Sunday morning, local officials said.

The incident took place in Aibak, the capital of the province, after explosives were placed in a motorbike. Five people were injured when the explosives were detonated, provincial police Chief Mohammad Baqir said.

“A woman and the finical head of the provincial Independent Election Commission department are among the injured people,” he said.

Police have started investigations into the incident and the injured people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to officials.

No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the incident.
