According to China daily, the country’s foreign office replied to a letter asked about the recent reported visit of Talliban delegation, saying China wants peace and stability for Afghanistan and wants Afghan government and Taliban hold peace talks as soon as possible.
The written replied of the China’s foreign office however nor confirms the visit neither rejects it, only saying, China is in touch with all relevant sides to Afghanistan issues.
However, the statement adds China has always supported the concept of Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process and will continue its positive and constructive role in Afghanistan.
A few days ago, some reports went viral that a delegation of Afghan Taliban including Sher Abbas Stanekzai head of Taliban’s political office in Qatar paid a visit to China on 18 to 22 July at the invitation of China’s government to discuss Afghanistan issue.
Since then, both China’s foreign office and Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid nor rejected the visit neither confirmed it.
China is one member of a four country group called Quadrilateral Cooperation Group on Afghanistan peace process formed at the suggestion of Pakistan and Afghanistan to draw a road-map for Afghanistan peace process with Taliban and other insurgents group here.
The group held several meetings in Islamabad and Kabul with calling on Taliban to join the process at the end of each meeting. However, Taliban refused to join the process.
