The building was constructed at a cost of 200 million U.S. dollars and was financed largely by the United States.
The new building of the defence ministry highly resembles Pentagon building and it is therefore called the “Small Pentagon”
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said opening of the new building of the defense ministry was a stride toward professionalizing the Afghan national army.
The Afghan president also expressed gratitude to all those countries which have backed Afghan stabilization and the reconstruction process.
On the same occasion, Afghan acting minister of defense Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai described terrorism as a common enemy, noting that overcoming the terror menace requires regional and global cooperation.
