The Council reconfirmed the EU’s and member states’ long-term commitment to promoting peace, stability and prosperity and to support its sustainable development, European Council said in a statement.
“The strategy on Afghanistan priority areas: promoting peace, stability and regional security, reinforcing democracy, the rule of law and human rights and promotion of good governance and women’s empowerment, supporting economic and human development and addressing challenges related to migration, the statement said.
The new EU strategy takes account of established international frameworks and in particular the reform plans presented at the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan in October last year.
It calls for an inclusive, transparent and credible election process.
