Five electricity and water dams to be built: Afghan official

Afghan government is planning to build electricity and irrigation dams in five water zones of the country, Finance Minister Iklil Hakimi said Monday.

The dams are expected to be built on Helmand, Kabul, Harirud and Amo rivers of the country and the ministries of energy and finance and National Procurement Commission are set to hire a consultancy company for technical studies of the projects, 1TV reported.

Finance Minister Iklil Hakimi, who was addressing lawmakers in the Lower House, said that procurement process would also begin soon.

He said that technical studies for the projects would be completed in five years.

During the hearing session, Hakimi also said that six textile factories of the country would be reconstructed with long-term loans from Uzbekistan.

He said that textile factories in Gulbahar and Helmand’s Bost would be prioritized.
