A group of Taliban joined peace process in northern Badakhshan province

A 10-member group of Taliban laid down their arms and joined peace process in northern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

Media office of the provincial governor said in a statement that a 10-member group of Taliban led by Gul Ahmad laid down their arms and joined peace process.

The statement added that the group was involved in insurgency activities against the government in Samdara village of ArghanjKhah district of the province.

Governor of Badakhshan welcomed the move by the group and said “we are so happy today to see a group of our brothers has joined peace process and wants to stand beside their Afghan brothers for improvement of the country.”

A local paramilitary commander and elders of Samdara village encouraged the group to lay down their arms and join peace process.

Taliban insurgents have yet to make any comments.
