House of Representatives called on top Security Officials

Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) has called on top security authorities to appear before lawmakers on Wednesday to answer questions regarding the collapse of Kunduz to the Taliban.

Those summoned include the National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief Rahmatullah Nabil, Interior Minister Noorulhaq Olomi, acting Defense Minister Masoom Stanikzai, National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) chief Ghulam Jailani Popal.

The heads of parliamentary committees decided on Tuesday that the officials must appear before Parliament at Wednesday’s general assembly.

The decision came after the government was accused of negligence in preventing the collapse of Kunduz.

Kunduz city fell to the Taliban on Monday after hundreds of armed Taliban insurgents stormed government facilities including the prison, which led to the escape of about 600 inmates, including 110 Taliban members.
