I will work for interests of Afghanistan: Atta Mohammad Noor

Former governor of northern Balkh province, Atta Mohammad Noor, on Saturday said that he was firm to work for the interests of Afghanistan. In a telephone conversation with the national security advisor, he announced his support for the central government and said he was committed to its progresses.

This synergy and harmony was totally reverse just a fortnight ago when the ties between the ex-governor of Balkh and the government were strained over a contentious presidential decree to oust Noor. Although Noor had earlier tendered his resignation to Ghani on condition that certain demands be met. However, after months of confrontation, Noor agreed to step down as Balkh governor and be replaced by a new governor, Ishaq Rahguzar.

Spokesperson to the National Security Council, Qadir Shah, told Afghanistan Times that the national security advisor, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, had talked with Atta Mohammad Noor on the phone on Friday evening.

Atmar was quoted as commending Noor’s services and achievements and applauding his decisions in critical conditions of the country. Atmar also said that he respected Noor as a political leader. “His political role is essential for Afghanistan’s development and the government’s strength,” said Atmar.

In turn, Ata Mohammad Noor said he had constantly worked for the interests of Afghanistan and Afghans. “I strongly support the government and remain committed for empowering it,” Noor assured Atmar.
