Iran’s parliament gives vote of confidence to new agriculture minister

The Iranian parliament on Wednesday gave a vote of confidence to President Hassan Rouhani’s pick of Kazem Khavazi as the new agriculture minister, according to the state TV.

Out of 215 lawmakers present in the parliament on Wednesday, 196 voted in favor of and 15 against Khavazi, while four abstained.

   Khavazi once served as the head of Iran’s Agricultural Research Education and Development Organization.

   He also served as the head of Iran’s Soil and Water Research Institute.

   Former Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati resigned in November 2019 before being impeached by the parliament.
