Local journalist shot dead by unknown gunmen in east of Afghanistan

An Afghan local journalist in eastern Logar province was shot dead by unknown gunmen while he was on his way home on Thursday evening.

A local official says “Mohammad Nasir Modasir chief of local “Melli Paygham Radio” was shot dead while he was driving from office to his home.”

The incident took place in Moahammad Agh district of eastern Logar province.

The attackers intercepted a vehicle along a main road in which Modasir was travelling, and spreed bullets on him on the roadside before fleeing the scene, the official said.

He added that an investigation has been launched into the attack.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC), the country’s union of journalists, has denounced the killing and called on the government to protect the life and properties of journalists in the militancy-hit country.

More than 50 journalists have been killed in Afghanistan over the past one and half decade, and 12 Afghan journalists had been killed this year before this case.
