The incident took place in Marjah district where military operations are ongoing to suppress the growing insurgency activities of the anti-government armed militants, Khaama Press reported.
There are no reports regarding the casualties as a result of the incident and it is yet not clear if the helicopter belonged to the Afghan Air Force.
This comes as coalition forces have also been deployed to support to the Afghan forces after Taliban militants launched a major offensive to take control of key districts including Sangin during the recent weeks.
In the meantime, a local security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity said the helicopter crashed in the area where the Taliban insurgents are operating.
This is the second incident involving helicopter crash in less than a week. Earlier, a helicopter belonging to the Afghan Army crashed in Logar province, leaving at least four dead.
