“So far over 100 wounded were transferred to the hospital, among them five were in critical condition and were transferred to Kabul for further treatment,” said Warasta.
According to the local officials, most of the victims are women and children.
Parwan local officials said the flooding occurred around 3:00 am local time.
Local officials said that dozens of houses and vehicles were destroyed in Charikar, the provincial capital.
According to local residents, no rescue teams have yet arrived in the area and they call for urgent assistance for the victims.
President Ghani has directed the State Ministry for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs to provide emergency assistance to the flood victims in Charikar, Parwan, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
First Vice President Amrullah Saleh referring to Parwan said that:”Due to the large amount of damage caused by floods, the disaster management at the provincial level cannot reach it, all relevant govt departments in Kabul were directed to help in coordination with the State Ministry of Disaster Management.”
Minister Ghulam Bahauddin Jilani, of the State Ministry of Disaster Management, in a telephone call with the governor of Parwan province pledged to provide assistance to the flood victims, said the ministry.
