Taliban freed kidnapped IEC employees in Ghor: officials

Afghan officials confirmed that militants have freed the kidnapped Independent Election Commission and two policemen in Ghor.

A spokesman for provincial police in Ghor, Iqbal Nezami said that Taliban militants have freed three IEC employees and two policemen who were kidnapped on Tuesday.

Nezami told AFP that local elders negotiated with the Taliban militants for release of the kidnapped employees and no ransom was paid.

Gunmen stormed into a voter registration center in Firuzkooh city of Ghor province and kidnapped three employees of the center and two policemen.

Independent Election Commission has started the registration process of qualified voters recently, amid reports of Taliban leaders asking Afghan people not to register themselves, calling the election as fraud.
