Taliban militants have gunned down at least 32 Afghan soldiers after keeping them besieged up for a few days.

A local official who wished not to be named told Salam Watandar that the incident took place two days ago in Akhundhay area of the Gurak district in Kandahar province.

He said the security forces were besieged for a few hours before they surrendered to Taliban militants.

In the meantime, a spokesman for the local governor Samim Khapalwak, while confirming the incident said the number of soldiers who were gunned down is 22.

“At least 8 soldiers have been killed and the rest have been wounded.” Said Khapalwak, adding that the wounded have been transferred to Kandahar airport hospital for treatment.

However, Taliban militants in a message sent to the media claimed the number of soldiers who were killed is 50.

Taliban adds that besides killing all these soldiers, some amount of ammunition has also been seized by the militants.
