In a statement on Wednesday the Taliban said their preference is to solve the Afghan issue through peaceful dialogue.
The statement further added that the Taliban expressed their willingness to enter into dialogue to end the war in Afghanistan.
The Taliban further added that their willingness to find peace did not mean they were exhausted and that their armed campaign would be sustained no matter how powerful the U.S. opposition.
According to the statement the Taliban can solve problems with ever side “through healthy politics and dialogue.”
The statement comes amid stepped up military pressure on the Taliban following U.S. announcement of a new strategy in August last year.
The militants once again called on U.S. to end its “occupation” and accept the Taliban right to form a government “consistent with the beliefs of our people.”
Taliban have been waging an insurgency in Afghanistan since 2001 when they were ousted from power by U.S. after it suffered deadly attacks by al-Qaeda.
