Tashkent renews offer to host Afghan peace parleys

The government of Uzbekistan has reaffirmed its willingness to host peace negotiations between the Afghan government and Taliban.

Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov made the offer at a meeting with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto.

During the meeting in Tashkent on Tuesday, Kamilov said Tashkent was ready to provide all necessary conditions for direct talks between Kabul and Taliban at any stage of the Afghan peace process.

A statement from the foreign ministry in Tashkent said Uzbekistan started promoting regional cooperation after President Shavkat Mirziyoev took office in 2016.
