The US ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass in a press conference here in Kabul called for a peaceful solution be found between Afghan government and Ata Mohammad Noor, as only terrorists will benefit from the continued disputes in the country.
The tension sparked almost a month ago when the government said it approved the resignation of Ata Mohammad Noor, a powerful politician in north who has been at his post since 2004. Ata refuses the claim by the government, saying he had submitted his resignation to President Ghani on a conditional base.
“This dispute needs to be resolved as soon as possible,” Bass said at a news conference in Kabul. “The only people that benefit from this continued impasse are terrorists and the adversaries of this country.”
The diplomat said that the political dispute is not an issue for U.S. to decide. “It is an issue for Afghans to decide within the framework of the Constitution and in accordance with rule of law.”
