US pilot survives as aircraft crashes in Afghanistan

Air Force pilot flying an Afghan Air Force A-29 Super Tucano has survived an aircraft crash during a training flight in Afghanistan.

The U.S. military spokesman confirmed this on Friday.

The spokesman said that preliminary indications show that the aircraft crashed due to “mechanical” issues even though the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

“The pilot ejected prior to the crash and was safely recovered,’’ the U.S. army in Afghanistan confirmed.
Also, local officials in Afghanistan’s north-eastern Baghlan province confirmed that the pilot rescued himself from the army aircraft in the province’s Doshi district using a parachute.
The Afghan army did not disclose if the U.S. instructor was flying the aircraft alone or with an Afghan pilot, NAN reports.
The A-29 light attack aircraft is used for air support and has two seats.
