Yamamoto to replace Haysom as UN’s Special Representative to Afghanistan

Tadamichi Yamamoto of Japan who has served as Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations in Afghanistan since 2014 is going to be appointed as the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative to Afghanistan.

After Yamamoto’s gradation, the UN’s Deputy Special Representative in Afghanistan will be Pernille Dahler Kardel of Denmark who has twenty-five years of experience in diplomacy, political affairs, international cooperation and economic development, spanning several continents.

Prior to working with the United Nations, Yamamoto held several positions in the Japanese Foreign Ministry. According to khaama press.

He was Japan’s ambassador for assistance to Afghanistan and Pakistan between 2010 and 2012.

Yamamoto will be replacing Nicholas Haysom of South Africa who has been appointed by the Secretary General as his Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan.

A lawyer with a long international career focused on democratic governance, constitutional and electoral reforms, Haysom was and he remains for a few more weeks, the Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) where he has served since 2014 as Head and Deputy from 2012 to 2014.
