More than 3,000 Afghan refugees voluntarily left Germany in 2016

More than 3,000 migrants from Afghanistan left Germany in 2016, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Friday.

More than 3,000 migrants from Afghanistan, who had no rights to obtain asylum in Germany, have voluntarily left the European country so far in 2016, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Friday.

“As for Afghanistan, more than 3,000 people have left Germany voluntarily in 2016, and the federal government welcomes the process,” Seibert said. Sputnik reports.

Europe is currently facing a major refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of migrants attempting to reach deemed wealthy EU member states, such as Germany, through various routes. Despite Brussels’ efforts to curb the migration influx, many people still continue to attempt to reach the European Union. Earlier in the week, media reported that Germany planned to deport 50 migrants to Afghanistan. On Thursday, the first aircraft with 34 deported Afghans landed in Kabul.
