Abdullah to visit Qatar for peace meetings

Chairman of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, will travel to Qatar to attend international meetings on Afghan peace, sources said

Representatives of US Russia, China and Pakistan, will meet in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Wednesday under what is officially known as the “extended troika.”

Prior to that, US, Russia, China, Iran, Uzbekistan and representatives of UN and EU will hold a meeting which will also be attended by Abdullah.

The third day will see a meeting between Asian countries including Turkey and India.

The meetings are expected to halt Taliban attacks on Afghan cities and accelerate peace talks.

Head of Taliban’s political office, Mulla Baradar, and chiefs of the negotiating teams are also expected to attend the meetings.
