Afghan Electoral Commissioners Banned from Leaving Country

According to the Afghan attorney general office all Afghan electoral commissioners are barred from leaving Afghanistan.

This comes after Ghani dismissed the commissioners of the two electoral bodies.

“12 former members of election commissions and electoral complaints commission, including their heads have been banned from leaving the country,” attorney general office said in a statement late Tuesday.

Investigators had been appointed to look into charges of abuse of authority.

Meanwhile, the commissioners said in a joint statement that “this is a political decision, not a legal or constitutional one”.
“The attorney general office of the Islamic republic of Afghanistan has tasked a delegation to investigate heads and former members of the independent election commission and the electoral complaints commission on charges of abuse of authority,” the statement read.
