Afghan intellegince agency foils terrorist attack on Ministry of Defense

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s intelligence agency has foiled a terrorist attack on the Ministry of Defense.

A statement released by NDS on Thursday states that a group of five terrorists had planned to carry out a coordinated attack on the ministry, but their plan was thwarted.

The statement further states that two of the five terrorists have been arrested who are members of the Haqqani Terrorist Network.

The detained terrorists are identified as Shah Mahmood alias Shafiq and Shir Agh alias Noor Mohammad.

According to the statement, terrorists had planned to detonate a ‘Townace’ model vehicle laden with explosives in front of the Ministry of Defense and after security forces arrive at the blast site a suicide bomber carries out explosion among security forces.

The plan also included other terrorists to go inside the ministry to engage in gun battle with security forces.

The arrested terrorists have confessed to their intentions of targeting the Defense Ministry by the instructions from Haqqani Terrorist Network.

The terrorists also confessed receiving military training in Miranshah area of Pakistan.

NDS had reported foiling a plan of Haqqani Network yesterday. The agency said in a statement that two members of the network were arrested in Sarai Hirati area before detonating a vehicle laden with explosives.

Two members of the group were killed in an encounter with NDS officials in Kabul earlier this month.
