Afghanistan, Iran custom departments sign MoUs

Customs departments of Iran and Afghanistan signed three memoranda of understanding for trade transactions.

The memoranda of understanding were signed by Masoud Karbasian, head of Iran’s Customs Administration and Najibullah Wardak Customs Director General of Afghanistan.

The three documents are considered to be the most important documents for customs cooperation between the two countries with the implementation of which a new chapter will be opened in customs cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan.

The three memoranda of understanding cover areas of electronic information, customs cooperation and joint border gate.

The Afghan side is due to announce implementation of the memoranda of understanding within 45 days following which a joint trade gate will be established by the customs departments of the two countries.

The two customs departments also made new decisions concerning increase in transactions of border dwellers.

With regard to the activities of six border marketplaces which are active by the Iranian side, the Afghan party has undertaken to review the case and announce to the Iranian side within a period of 30 days its position on the opening or closure of the markets
