After 4 days of being closed, Kabul-North highway reopens

The busy Kabul-North highway has reopened for traffic after four days of closure in Baghlan province, an official said on Thursday.

The highway had been shut by clashes between the security forces and Taliban militants in Pul-i-Khumri City, the provincial capital, over the past few days.

Police spokesman Ahmad Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces conducted air and ground operations to reopen the highway on Wednesday night.

He added the highway was reopened today (Thursday) following operations and passengers could travel it safely.

Clearing operations were still underway in some parts of the provincial capital, Basharat said.

Meanwhile, Syed Ajan, a resident of the capital city, told Pajhwok that the highway was reopened for small vehicles this morning.

On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed capturing a number of check-posts and inflicting casualties on dozens of security forces during attacks on the provincial capital over the last four days.
