America’s war against terror groups in Afghanistan will continue despite Taliban demands

Washington’s campaign against terror groups in Afghanistan will continue unabated despite Taliban demands for a full U.S. withdrawal from the country, Pentagon’s top officer has reportedly said Wednesday.

US chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Gen. Joseph Dunford said America’s continued military presence in the country is not up for debate.

“No one has suggested the U.S. is going to leave Afghanistan until our counterterrorism interests are addressed. … That is nonnegotiable,” Gen. Dunford said during a briefing at the Washington-based think tank Brookings Institute, according to Washington Times.

The remarks come as US Special envoy on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad has reportedly agreed to a draft timeline for the US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan during six rounds of direct talks with Taliban delegation in Doha Qatar.
