Afghan minister for refugee affairs Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi announced the initiative in a meeting with an official from WFP’s Afghanistan country office, Garry.

During the meeting, Garry from WFP said that his office would provide the ministry with the biometric system in a few days, so that the ministry can put it in use in border provinces including Kandahar, Nangarhar, Khost, Herat and Nimruz.

The ministry has also said that with the new system, transparency will occur and aid distribution process to displaced and returnees in need will speed up.

Alemi Balkhi asked the WFP to prepare the system launching as soon as possible.
