Blast in Kandahar leaves 11 madrassa students killed

According to officials at least 11 students were killed and 16 other people, including five Romanian solders, were wounded in a car bombing in southern Kandahar province on Monday morning.

The students were killed after a suicide car bomber targeted a convoy of Romanian troops in the Daman district.

“The explosion happened at about 11am local time in Haji Abdullah Khan village of Daman district when a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle full of explosives.” Kandahar officials said.

The target had been a Romanian troops convey that had been patrolling the area.

Kandahar media office deputy spokesman Matiullah said that at least 11 students at a Madrassa close to the scene of the explosion were killed in the bombing.

So far no group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This comes after three Romanian soldiers were wounded in a car bomb near Kandahar Airport in September last year.
