Defense ministry nominee fails to win the confidence vote

Masoum Stanakzay, nominee for defense ministry, proposed his working plans to parliament members, but failed to get enough confidence votes.

Masoum Stankazay, nominee for ministry of defense failed to get the 50 percent plus one placet vote from members of parliament.

Of the 213 parliament members present during the session, Stanakzay could get only 84 placet votes, leaving him not to win the seat. 104 non placet, 7 recusant and 18 revoked votes were the results.

Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, parliament spokesman, addressed president to introduce a new nominee for the empty seat as soon as possible.

A member of parliament told Raha Press that Masoum Stanakzay was not qualified enough to get the seat, adding that the proposed nominee didn’t approve his qualification well, while being acting minister at the defense ministry.

“Some accuse him in Burhan-uddin Rabbani’s terror, the former peace council chairman of Afghanistan, and this caused him not to win the seat.” this member of parliament said.

Nine months have passed since the government started working, but it has yet to full its cabinet.
