Gas leakage claims lives of 10 in Herat

Gas leakage and then fire inside a house in western Herat province claimed lives of 10 people, officials said on Monday.

Health officials from the Public Health directorate of this province say that the incident took place in the provincial capital around 3:00 am this morning.

Those killed include three children, four women and four men, all members of the same family.

Police sources while confirming the incident in third area of the city say that the fire was caused by the leakage of a gas cylinder.

Most of the residents in Afghanistan do not have fire extinguishers and fire escape plans which result in the death of dozens of people every year.

Five people were killed when a gas cylinder exploded and caused fire inside a residence in capital Kabul in July.
