A gathering of at least 300 Taliban fighters air-targeted in west, Afghanistan

Local officials in western Herat province have said that airstrike targeted a gathering of at least 300 Taliban fighters in the province yesterday.

Herat provincial government said in a statement today that a gathering of at least 300 Taliban fighters were targeted yesterday in the vicinity of Chesht-Sharif district.

The statement added that heavy casualties were inflicted to the militants, but the exact number of losses are yet to be clear.

The insurgents had gathered for a meeting when the air strike targeted them. They had to flee the area afterward, the statement added.

It is yet not clear for what reason the meeting was organized by the Taliban insurgents but the provincial government said the airstrike was carried out based on a tip off received from the area.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
