Gun battle kills 9 including 8 Taliban militants in Kunar province
Gun battle between Taliban insurgents and Afghan security forces have left nine people including eight militants and a solider dead in Narai district of the eastern Kunar province on Monday, provincial police chief, Abdul Habib Sayedkhili said.

“Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in Narai district at 04:00 a.m. local time today and security personnel returned fire killing eight rebels on the sport,” Sayedkhili told reporters here.
One security force has embraced martyrdom and 15 others including 12 insurgents and three security personnel sustained injuries in the gun battle which lasted for some three hours, the official said.
However, he added that the security forces have been chasing the militants to ensure lasting peace there.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of the mountainous Kunar province along the border with Pakistan’s lawless tribal area have yet to make comment.
