International flights too expensive in Kabul airport
Officials at Afghanistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) said that although the airport is operational to allow for international flights in the country, due to the political challenges the flights have not become normal.
All international commercial flights were canceled following the August 15th political change and recently only airplanes from Pakistan and Iran made a few flights to Kabul. Also, some charter flights fly into Kabul for evacuation purposes. Except for these, commercial flights have not resumed normal activity.
“We do not have a specific timetable and schedule for flights as we used to have in Kabul airport. Only our domestic flights continue to a few provinces of the country: From Kabul to Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat and Kandahar,” said Ghulam Jailani Wafa, deputy chief of (ACAA).
Meanwhile, a number of residents in the country who want to go abroad called on the ACAA to normalize flights and also reduce the price of the tickets.
“We want the Islamic Emirate to return the flight availability to its normal state because we only have Kam Air and it is not enough. Like Iran and Pakistan we do not have many planes,” said Mirwais, a ticket recipient.
“The prices have risen, and I borrowed this money to buy the ticket,” said Noor Khan, another ticket holder.
According to the travel agencies, due to the lack of international flights and the increased demands for tickets, the prices of tickets has risen.
“Flights should be normalized because passengers have a lot of problems. We have a few flights which are not enough because the prices are so high,” said Mohammad Rasool, head of a travel agency.
On the other hand, officials of the ACAA said that they have dealt, in accordance with the law, with those companies that have increased the prices of tickets.
In the meantime, some economists said international flights should resume, stating that flights have a positive impact on the economy of the country.
“In general, air and land transport can play a key role in the development of the country’s economy,” said Abdul Nasir Reshtia, an economist.
In the meantime, Ariana Airline said it is planning to resume its flights to Dubai.
