ISIS shadow governor for Kunduz arrested

Afghan National Directorate for Security arrested ISIS shadow governor for Kunduz along with the group’s military chief for Khanabad district of the same province.

Afghan National Directorate for Security in a press release said operatives of the NDS in an operation arrested ISIS shadow governor for northern Kunduz province along with the group’s military chief for Khanabad district of Kunduz Molawi Abdel Karim.

 

The two along with another fighter of the ISIS were arrested in Diwana-Qheshlaq Bovin village of the province around 2 p.m. local time.

 

Molawi Abdel Karim had been fortifying IS military bases in Khanabad of Kunduz and shut down some connecting roads of the district to the capital of the province, according to the press release.

 

Khorasan branch of ISIS which covers Afghanistan and Pakistan ISIS-K was first sighted one a half year ago in Afghanistan and has since been active in some remote areas of eastern Nangarhar and western Farah provinces.

 

Afghan government since two weeks ago announced a widespread crackdown against the group. Since then, hundreds of the IS fighters have reportedly been killed.

 

Moreover, officials in Afghan and US ministries of defence have just confirmed the death of IS head for Afghanistan and Pakistan Hafiz Saeed Khan in a US drone strike on July 26.
