Large numbers of Afghan politicians boycott consultative Jirga

Reports suggest that it is still not clear who would run the Peace Consultative Loya Jirga due to be held in the coming Monday.

It is said that President Ghani had asked Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf to chair the peace consultative Loya Jirga, which was supposedly rejected by Mr Sayyaf.

On the other hand, according to unconfirmed reports, many prominent members of the committee, organizing the peace Jirga, have resigned.
They are expected to hold a press conference and give details regarding the issue.
The peace consultative Jirga is scheduled to be held in Kabul on 29 April and continue for three days. 3000 people from across the country are expected to attend the Jirga.

Meanwhile, political parties, Jihadi faces, and some institutions have boycotted the Loya Jirga, arguing that this Jirga is an election campaign and ceremonial which will not solve the problems of Afghanistan.
However, president Ghani has repeatedly stressed on holding the Jirga, saying that it will be held on its determined time.

Political faces such as former president Hamid Karzai, Hanif Atmar, Sayed Ahmad Gelani, Ata M. Noor, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Mohammad Mohaqeq … political parties such as Hezb-e Jamiat Islami, Junbish Milli, Wahdat, Mahaz-e Milli, Hezb-e Islami … have boycotted the Loya Jirga.
