Militants storm police checkpoint in Kandahar city, gunshots continues

A gun battle is ongoing after militants equipped with arms and suicide vests attacked a police checkpoint in Kandahar city, the provincial capital of the southern Kandahar province on Thursday, spokesman for provincial government Samim Khapalwak said.

A fierce gun battle between the two sides is ongoing.

Officials have not immediately released information regarding the attack.

Initial reports suggest that a policeman has embraced martyrdom and two assailants killed in the attack.
