Ministry of Finance receives $7 million grant for food security in Afghanistan

A high level delegation of the Ministry of Finance and Da Afghanistan Bank led by Eklil Hakimi is participating in the International Monetary Fund – World Bank Annual Meetings held in Lima, Peru.

The three day meeting of the major development partners of Afghanistan began on Oct 09 and will continue until Oct 11.

Eklil Hakimi, Afghanistan’s Finance Minister who is leading the Afghan delegation signed a grant of $7 Million with Hesham Al-Waqayan, Deputy Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development on the sideline of the meeting.

Under the agreement Kuwait Fund will provide assistance for promotion of food security in Afghanistan.

In the meetings, Minister of Finance laid out government’s development plans for the immediate, medium and the long-term.

During the meetings the Afghan delegation also discussed government’s Post-SOM Reform agenda and preparations and plans for the upcoming High Level Conferences on Afghanistan planned to be held in Warsaw and Brussels.

In addition, the delegation met with high level development partners including the leaderships of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), United States Department of Treasury, and Head of DANIDA Denmark, amongst others.

The Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group each year bring together ministers of finance, central bankers, and development, private sector executives, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness. Also featured are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world’s financial system.
