NDS arrest four members of IS in Paghman

National Directorate of Security (NDS), the premier security and intelligence agency of the government, has arrested four members of the Islamic State (IS) group in Paghman district of Capital, Kabul.

According to NDS, the detained militants wanted to target the vehicle of police commander Sher Agha by detonating an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted under a culvert in Zarashkh area of Paghman.

During the investigation, the detainees confessed to membership in the Islamic State.

Many IS group leaders have been killed in drone strikes over the recent months including Mawlavi Shahidullah Shahid and Hafez Saeed, senior leaders of IS group in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which is known as ‘Khorasan region’.

The IS group, an offshoot of Al-Qaeda, made inroads in Afghanistan last year and formally launched operations in different parts of the country earlier this year.
