Qatar provides drinking water for southern areas of Afghanistan

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), through its representative mission in Afghanistan, has concluded a project to provide clean drinking water in south and southeastern Afghanistan, with a total budget of $400,000.

More than 1,200 poor families comprising with about 9,000 people are expected to benefit from the project, according to Peninsula.

QRCS said the project aims to improve the health condition of residents of remote and disadvantaged areas, reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics resulting from the use of polluted or unclean water by providing long-term drinking water, achieve food security, provide agricultural employment and revive the economic standard of the population by providing water for land irrigation.

The statement added that the project has been implemented in 16 regions in seven Afghan states in partnership and coordination with the Afghan charitable educational foundation, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, and their offices in the beneficiary states, in addition to the involvement of village councils and community members in conducting preliminary survey on needs and location of implementation.
