Taliban positions hit by air strikes in Helmand

Local officials in southern Helmand province say the Taliban positions were hit by Afghan forces’ air and artillery strikes, leaving several militants dead and wounded.

The officials added that the strikes carried out in Geresh and Nadi-Ali districts of the province and targeted several hideouts of the militants.

At least six Taliban militants were killed after artillery units of Afghan forces targeted militants’ hideouts. Two motorcycles belonging to insurgents were also confiscated by Afghan forces.

Media office of the provincial government said in statement today the Afghan Air Force conducted airstrikes in Spin Jumat, Bashran of Lashkargah, and Chah Engineer area of Nad-e-Ali, leaving at least five militants dead.

According to the provincial government, a vehicle and motorcycle along with some light and heavy weaponry of the Taliban insurgents were also destroyed during the operations.

The Afghan security forces in separate operations confiscated at least 95 different types of improvised explosive devices from different parts of the province, the provincial government added.

Taliban militants have yet to make any comments regarding the report so far.
