Taliban: when intra-Afghan talks will begin to be clear today

It will be clear today evening when intra-Afghan talks will begin, a Taliban spokesman said on Saturday.

Suhail Shaheen, a spokesman for Taliban’s political office in Qatar, said that Mullah Baradar, head of the office and deputy leader of the group, had arrived in Doha along with members of the negotiating team.

He said that efforts were ongoing to resolve technical issues and announce a date for starting intra-Afghan talks.

It comes two days after the Afghan government announced that it had released all but few prisoners the Taliban were demanding ahead of the talks.

Their releases happened follwoing a deal between the Taliban and the United States that required release of up to 5,000 Taliban prisoners and 1,000 government prisoners before the talks.
