To end war in Afghanistan, a political settlement required

A statement from US Embassy in Kabul said that US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad has beefed Afghan leaders on recent consultations on peace process.

The top diplomat visited Kabul from October 26 to 28 and then from October 29 to November 1.  He met President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Dr. Abdulllah and other government officials, the statement added.
The US embassy said in a statement the special envoy on Afghanistan reconciliation briefed the officials on his recent consultations with allies, partners and other regional countries. 

Khalilzad also held meetings with former officials, members of civil society and regional community to brief them and to hear their views on the peace process, according to the statement. 

Khalilzad underscored US support for a political settlement to end the war in Afghanistan and that a reduction in violence was necessary to bring lasting peace, the statement concluded as saying.
